How to write a sales resume that proves you close
Sales leaders hire on numbers. A sales resume without quota attainment, deal size and segment reads as unproven. Put your best figures at the top and show how you got them.

- Lead with quota attainment and ranking.
- State segment, average deal size and sales cycle.
- Show pipeline generation and win rate.
- Name the CRM and methodology you used.
Example bullets
Responsible for selling software to clients.
Closed 128% of quota for four consecutive quarters selling SaaS to mid-market retail (average deal 24k euro, 60-day cycle), ranking 2nd of 14 reps.
Generated leads.
Built 1.2m euro of outbound pipeline in six months through targeted sequences, with a 14% meeting rate and 22% opportunity-to-close.
Key numbers
- Quota and attainment, with ranking.
- Average deal size and cycle length.
- Pipeline created and win rate.
- Segment: SMB, mid-market, enterprise.
- Retention and expansion for account roles.

Tools and method
List the CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot), outreach tools and methodologies (MEDDIC, SPIN) you really use. Use strong verbs from action verbs.
Paste a job link, add your resume and get a requirement-by-requirement report.
Sample summary
Account executive with four years selling SaaS to mid-market retail. Closed 125% of quota for 6 of the last 8 quarters, average deal 28k euro. Seeking an enterprise AE role in fintech.
Account management and customer success
- Retention and net revenue retention figures.
- Expansion and upsell revenue.
- Number and size of accounts managed.
- Customer satisfaction scores.
Numbers a sales resume must show
- Quota and attainment, for example 118% of a 1.2M annual target.
- Deal size and cycle length.
- Pipeline generated versus inherited.
- Ranking in the team or region.
- New logo versus expansion revenue.
Sales readers expect numbers. A resume without them looks incomplete, however good the story.
Example bullets by role
| Role | Bullet |
|---|---|
| SDR | Booked 28 qualified meetings per month against a target of 20, ranking 2nd of 14 |
| AE | Closed 1.4M in new ARR with an average deal size of 38k and a 62-day cycle |
| Account manager | Expanded 40 accounts to 112% net revenue retention |
| Customer success | Reduced churn from 9% to 5.5% across 120 customers |
Context makes numbers credible
A figure without context is hard to judge. Add the market, segment, product price or territory so a stranger can see how hard it was. A number achieved in a new market, with no brand awareness, tells a different story from one achieved with strong inbound leads.
Career gaps and moves in sales
Sales has frequent job changes. Explain short stints briefly, show consistent results across employers and keep a clear thread of progression. If a company folded or reorganised, say so in a short note rather than leaving a question mark.
Mistakes in sales resumes
- Vague phrases such as exceeded targets with no numbers.
- Mixing team results with personal ones.
- Omitting the product and customer type.
- Leaving out ramp time in new roles.
A final check before you send a role-specific resume
- Does the headline name the role you want, in the employer's wording?
- Do the first three lines under the latest job prove the main requirement of the vacancy?
- Is every number real, with a baseline and a time frame?
- Are tools and skills grouped, ordered by relevance and also shown inside bullets?
- Do links work and point to current work?
- Does the file open cleanly and paste into a plain text editor in a sensible order?
- Would you be comfortable explaining every line in an interview?
Read the resume once as the hiring manager, in ten seconds, and note what you remember. If that is not your strongest result, move it to the top. Then read it again as a colleague who will work with you: do the lines sound like something a real person did? Specific, honest detail beats polished vagueness every time, in every field. Keep the master version updated after each new project so tailoring stays quick.
Key terms explained
- ATS
- Applicant tracking system, software employers use to collect, store and search applications.
- Parsing

- Tailoring
- Adjusting emphasis and wording of the same true facts for one specific vacancy.
- Requirement coverage
- How many of a vacancy's main requirements your resume proves with evidence.
- Master resume
- Your complete private version with every role and result, from which you build shorter tailored copies.
- Warm introduction
- A recommendation or message passed through someone who already knows both sides.
- Reply rate
- Replies divided by applications sent, the clearest signal of whether your approach works.
Knowing these terms makes it easier to read job ads, compare tools and judge advice you find online, because many claims depend on what exactly is being measured.
Tailor and network
Match the segment and deal type in the vacancy. Sales hiring responds well to referrals (guide); tailor the top third using tailoring.
